It’s Whatever Wednesday. I said it before, but I’m not really a car guy. However, I do like cars. So this post will be about cars because it’s Whatever Wednesdays and I feel like writing about them. When I used to help with interviews for residency I used to ask the candidates this question: You are only allowed one car for the rest of your life, what is it? The responses were all over the […]
Whatever Wednesdays
I asked my wife what I should talk about for this “Whatever Wednesdays” because it’s always good to get a different perspective on things. She suggested that I talk about our experiences with Child Care. I think this is something every family must deal with, especially if there is no strong extended family support system. For us, both being physicians made our schedules very rigid, which made finding good child care difficult. For this reason, I […]

As you can read on my About page, I went to a Caribbean Medical School by the name of American University of the Caribbean (AUC for short). Usually the initial response I receive when people found out that I went to a Caribbean Medical School falls into one of these three categories: Curiosity: Really? How does that work? Do you do all your rotations on the island too? Is it in English? Jealousy (Fake or […]
Caribbean Medical Schools

The expanded question is: If you could do it over again, would you be a doctor again? Would you do it again?
Umbrella insurance is “non-occupation” liability. Occupation-liability (in our case) would be your malpractice insurance. I didn’t really discuss Umbrella Insurance as a necessity because for most residents and young attendings it isn’t really necessary yet as it falls into more of the “asset protection” category. Until you have assets to protect (such as a house) then you really don’t need this. However: You want your non-occupation liability insurance to be approximately equal to the assets […]
Umbrella Insurance
I touched upon disability insurance on my intro post of “Why do I need insurance?“ I think disability insurance is actually more important than life insurance from a risk management standpoint. Warning, incoming morbid real talk about death and disability: If you die without life insurance then someone has to pay for your funeral costs, burial or cremation, etc. This varies widely, but for the most part, family members can usually help out with this […]
