Brisket Sauce #illumedati

Hey everyone, it’s Whatever Wednesdays again. Today is just a short post about “Brisket Sauce”.

Kylie waiting for her Brisket Sauce.

Brisket Sauce

I’ve talked about it before, but “my currency” is “Gens”. Recently, my daughter also seems to like Gen BBQ. However, I think she’s more enamored with the brisket sauce rather than just the brisket itself.

As such, I’ve set out to try to find what exactly this sauce is. It’s a pretty mild sauce to be honest, without the super strong sweet flavor like teriyaki or sweet & sour sauce. After much research I happened upon this:

The “base sauce” is the one Kylie likes, which is what Gen simply refers to as “brisket sauce”. I’m not sure if it’s exactly the same, but I think it’s pretty close. Furthermore, Kylie seems to think it’s the same one, and well, her opinion is what matters.

Here are the ingredients:

Base sauce

As you can tell, it’s a pretty simple recipe. It’s not a very thick sauce, as you can tell, since it’s mostly soy sauce, water, and rice vinegar. There’s just a little bit of sugar in there to make it a little sweet. However, because of its consistency you can soak up a good amount of the sauce whenever you drip brisket in it. Kylie likes it on her rice too.

As a plus, Lucas likes it too. As with anything new, he was very against trying it. However, once he tried it he smiled and said “Yum!” and he eats it up like she does.

My mother-in-law likes to add thinly sliced onions into this base sauce.

As for me, I like the more spicy version of the sauce. It’s called “Crazy Sauce” over at Gen BBQ. However, these ingredients are under the “optional” section in this set of instructions.

Optional

  • 10g (0.4 ounces) thinly sliced onion pieces
  • 1/2 tsp Korean chilli flakes (Gochugaru) – You can add more for extra spiciness.
  • 1/2 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2 tsp roasted sesame seeds
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp (heaped) finely chopped green onion – You can add more if you like.
  • 1 Green or red chilli – I didn’t use this, but if you want to make it extra spicy sauce, you can add it.

You can add any and all of these extra ingredients. The “Crazy Sauce” over at Gen BBQ has pretty much all of this stuff in it. I think we’ll try to whip a batch of this one for me sometime. I like this stuff on both meat and rice. However, be warned, if you use too much garlic (like I would), you may smell of garlic. My wife tells me I reek of garlic after I go eat Gen sometimes. The Gen BBQ version has both minced garlic as well as chunks in it.

According to the website, these sauces should last a few weeks if you store them in an airtight container. So maybe for your first time, don’t make too much just to try it out. You’ll kind of figure out how much you need for a meal for you and your family over the course of time.

TL;DR

Brisket Sauce and Crazy Sauce!

Give them a try.
