Hey everyone, it’s kind of a late Whatever Wednesdays post… on a Thanksgiving Thursday! Today is just a quick post about some “Black Friday” picks.
Black Friday?
Yea.
I’ve said it before, but if you impulse shop, Black Friday puts you in the Red. That said, there are some good deals going on that I think are worth talking about:
Here’s the first one:
Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet, 8″ HD Display, 32 GB, Blue Kid-Proof Case
This is what I’ve been waiting for. A significant price drop on Fire HD 8 Kids down to $79.99 — OR $139.98 if you buy two and save $20 more. Since I have two little monkeys, I opted for the latter option. Lucas wants blue and Kylie wants pink. (Kylie would prefer purple, but is ok with the pink.)
Why not the Fire HD 10 Kids Edition?
Well. It’s significantly more expensive. $149.99 for one or $279.98 for two. Also, for little hands the 10″ screen makes it a little more difficult to carry around. That said, it is the “largest, fastest” kids tablet that Amazon offers. However, I just don’t really see the need for that. I think the Fire HD 8 Kids Edition will work just fine for another 3 years or so, at which point some new tablet will be out that they can upgrade to.
Well, that’s the main one. However, for those who are looking at Nintendo Switch deals this Black Friday, I think the best deals are:
Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart can be had at Amazon, Best Buy, Gamestop, Target, and Walmart.
If you’re an Amazon person, bookmark this link for Black Friday:
Nintendo Switch with Neon Blue and Neon Red Joy‑Con HAC-001 w/ Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
However if you want the absolute best deal… apparently Gamestop is sweetening the deal on Black Friday to:
Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart 8 + $25 gift card
The only caution is that these Nintendo Switch + Mario Kart deals are almost 100% the “older model” of Nintendo Switch. Its battery life isn’t as good, about 2 hours less. If that doesn’t matter to you then don’t worry about it. However, if you’re doing the majority of your gaming on the go, then you may want to pass on this one — and maybe just go with a Nintendo Switch Lite instead. We haven’t really seen many deals on that one so far. However, keep an eye out.
Anything else?
There are always a lot of Black Friday deals going on. However, I just caution people to only buy what you actually want… don’t just buy things because they’re a “deal”.
However, I’d be remiss if I didn’t include these deals:
I literally just bought this thing for Disney Plus, and now of course it went on sale for $10 cheaper. Meh, what can you do. If you don’t have it, it’s probably a good time to pick one up for yourself or someone in your family that could use it this Christmas.
However, if I had it to do over again I probably would have waited for this to on sale:
It’s retail price is $99, but is on sale for $49 now.
The reason it was more expensive is because the Ultra actually uses an Ethernet cable, which provides a much more stable (and faster) connection. This might be helpful for those people who have congested airways with multiple different WiFi signals that can interrupt each other.
It also has external storage support with microSD and USB.
In addition, you can plug headphones into the controller itself. This could be nice if the kids want to watch something but the adults don’t want to hear a bunch of noise in the background. Or if someone wants to watch a particular show (like late night or early morning for example) but doesn’t want to bother others.
That said, these features are all more of a “nice to have” thing rather than a “must have”. I think that in general, the Roku Streaming Stick + is still the better overall choice for most people.
TL;DR
Just a few quick picks for Holiday Shopping after you eat some Turkey.
