Hey everyone, it’s Whatever Wednesdays and today is kind of a random post about my “Top Picks for Christmas 2018“.

Top Picks for Christmas 2018

My daughter is 5 years old and my son is 3 years old, so these are kind of which toys in that age range which I think will be “hot” for this Christmas. I’ve looked at a lot of “hot toy” lists for Christmas 2018. To be honest, there seems to be an unhealthy obsession with “poop toys” this year, which I want my kids to stay away from. I’m hoping this is a passing fad. Anyways, after my extensive research here are some toys I’ve decided on.

In general, it seems like every year that there is some new “mystery” toy that comes out. By “mystery” toy I mean you get the item and it has a chance to have any number of different things in it. I’ve talked about them before, but I think Hatchimals are still pretty hot. However, in particular I think this one will be a hot item:

Hatchimals CollEGGtibles Neon Nightglow

These hatchimals glow in the dark! So not only is the element of “mystery” still there, from opening the eggs. But whatever you get will glow in the dark. Kids love glow in the dark stuff. I can imagine my kids will want to open this up and then want to keep them in their beds with them because they glow.

That said, this is an Amazon exclusive, so make sure to use my link if you do plan to buy them.

Somewhat related is the playset, where you can play with your hatchimals. I’m not totally sold on it yet. However, if you’re going to be buying some hatchimals, it might be a good idea to have a place for the kids to play with them on:

If your kids like dinosaurs, like my son does, then consider this:

furReal Munchin’ Rex

To be honest, when I saw it online, I wasn’t too impressed because I thought it was kind of small. However, when I saw it in the store it’s actually a pretty good size dinosaur and it does a lot of fun stuff. I think my son will really like it, and his older sister can help him figure out everything it does.

Now, for the “new kid on the block” when it comes to mystery items:

Hairdorables

When I first saw these I was also underwhelmed. I thought they were going to be tiny dolls which were poorly made. However, I read a few reviews on them. From that I found out they’re a actually good size, reasonably well made, and come with a lot of stuff for a reasonable price ($12.85 on Amazon as I type this, with MSRP of $14.99) — I think there is good value here.

This is kind of a dark horse candidate, however… I wanted to throw this in there too.

My daughter and son finally watched

The Transformers: The Movie

This is the original cartoon movie, and the real Transformers as they were meant to be seen. After watching it, they both want to watch the real transformers. After wiping away a manly tear from my eye, I set out to find the dvd set.

The Transformers: The Complete Series

However, the price on Amazon is $79.99 for some reason. After some digging, I think the best price is actually on Ebay where the price seems to be around $30. I think there is good value there for the complete Transformers cartoon collection.

PAW Patrol – Ultimate Rescue Fire Truck with Extendable 2 Foot Tall Ladder

My kids still like PAW Patrol, but they’re not crazy about it like they were last year. This is a pretty cool fire engine with a ladder though. I think a lot of fun could be had with it. If my kids were still really into PAW Patrol, then this one is a no-brainer. However, because their interest has waned, this is relegated to a “maybe” (at least for me).

That’s it for right now… I have other stuff I’m looking into, but that should suffice going into this Black Friday. My son has developed an interest in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which he refers to as “Winja Turtles” so I’ll be looking for something related to them too.

I’ll probably do another similar post next Wednesday.

TL;DR

Just my opinions on hot toys for this holiday season, which I think provide good value.
